Teen Gathering Place
The Teen Gathering Place offers youth, ages 12 - 17, a safe place to gather with friends on Saturday nights, 6:00-9:00pm. The program is run by Executive Director, Laura Mathis and responsible volunteers. They keep a watchful eye on the teens as they enjoy various activities available to them. To insure the teens have a clean and safe place to hang out, there is a set of rules that we ask the teens to abide by. Our objective is to provide teens with a safe and comfortable place to gather with friends, something we find is a great need in our county. To attend the program, teens along with a parent or legal guardian will need to set up a time to meet with the program director to register the teen and go through an orientation of program rules before attending the Teen Gathering Place program. A $20 per family registration fee will be required during the time of registration. Considerations will be made for families facing financial difficulty.
Once teens are registered, there will be no charge to attend the program. Teens will simply sign-in when they arrive to the community center. They will also be required to wear a security bracelet during their stay, which will be provided for them, to show they are a registered teen.
Our gym is available for teens to play basketball, pool, and other games. There is also a snack bar available where teens can play video games, purchase pizza and other snack items, and to just hang out with friends.
As weather permits, teens can enjoy outdoor activities such as tennis, basketball, badminton, volley ball, or a game of football. They are also allowed to take a hike in the park with chaperone supervision.
A Place to Be Yourself
The Teen Gathering Place is a place where teens can just be themselves and get away from all the pressures of school and other stressful activities. Teens who are home-schooled as well as public/private schooled can come together and have fun. In addition to activities, we work to provide encouragement and support for teens during this important time in their lives.
Each of our chaperones are dedicated to insuring that your teenager has a safe, drug free place to hang out with their friends. They are volunteers from local churches, organizations, and parents just like you. To be a chaperone, each volunteer goes through a background check and training. All chaperones must be 19 years of age or older and be willing to attend the program on a regular basis at least once every-other month. This helps to build relationships that allow chaperones to get to know the teens and be there to mentor and provide additional support and encouragement when needed.
